Pearl: The Gem of the Sea
Pearl: A Gift of the Ocean
The pearl, this lustrous gem formed inside the shells of certain mollusks, has captivated human hearts since ancient times. Pearls are a symbol of beauty, elegance, and wealth, and have been highly regarded in many civilizations
How are pearls formed?
Pearls are formed as a result of a natural defense mechanism in some mollusks, such as oysters and mussels. When a foreign object, such as a grain of sand or a parasite, enters the mollusk's shell, the mollusk secretes a lustrous substance called "nacre" or "mother-of-pearl" to cover the foreign object and protect itself. This substance accumulates in successive layers around the foreign object, forming a pearl.
